have robots also known as spiders that crawl websites seeking out good content

Top sites are basically a group of related
sites that are grouped together within a script that allows a
person to vote for that site. Voting for a site within a topsite
allows the site to rank higher within the top site. The higher
shown, more than likely the more visits to your site. Most top
sites count incoming links as well as outgoing links to their
top site group to determine where you are ranked within the top
site.
Most top sites use banners instead of text links, however it
is your option to add a text link instead.
Top sites usually have requirements for the size of the banner image
and it needs to be uploaded to your own website. If you do not
have a banner and would like one created, you can find many
graphic designers online that will offer to create one for you
that will fit your needs.

Web rings are similar to topsites, yet your
site would belong to a ring instead. Viewers then visit other
members of the web ring by clicking on the link found on a
webring members site. For example: Site 1 has the code for the
webring that it is a member of listed on its site. When someone
clicks on that webring, they typically leave that site and go to
the next member of the webrings site. It is a continuous ring
that you can visit a multitude of members easily. Web
rings are grouped in related groups like work at home moms, web
masters, etc.

method for receiving incoming links to your site.
Simply put, link directories are similar to
the yellow pages in a phone book. Your link will be categorized
into one of the many categories the directory offers, depending
on what your site offers. This benefits viewers to find your
site easier from the directory.
